The Bribery Act 2010

Practical guidance on the Bribaery Act 2010

Introduction

This half-day seminar will provide practical guidance on the Bribery Act 2010 which comes into effect on 1 July 2011. It will focus on its impact on employers looking in particular at implementation, policies and procedures.

The Act creates, amongst other things, the new corporate offence of failing to prevent bribery. There is considerable uncertainty as to the scope of the defence of adequate procedures and what would amount to “adequate procedures” for employers, whether multi-national, or SMEs. Despite Government guidance there is also confusion around the extent of the policies that need to be implemented to ensure that employers are compliant with legislation.

The purpose of this seminar is to demystify the vast array of (often conflicting) information in the press and elsewhere on the subject and explain clearly what the key ramifications for employers are.
