Health & Safety At Work Birmingham

The latest developments and practical solutions to build a safer working environment

Introduction

These remain difficult times for health and safety professionals. During an economic downturn health and safety can become vulnerable to cost cutting by those organisations that consider it a box to tick rather than a core value. Set against this climate, the press continues to batter the profession and misguided officials use health and safety as an excuse to ban activities rather than using the real reason, which is often cost cutting or insurance grounds.

However, health and safety is about preventing terrible industrial accidents, injuries and deaths. Despite recent statistics showing a worrying increase in workplace fatalities the UK has one of, if not the best record for health and safety in the world and makes business more efficient rather than less.

The forthcoming independent review of health and safety legislation by Professor Löfstedt, and the discussions that will no doubt follow, will be a good opportunity to address issues on the basis of real evidence rather than the knee-jerk response often surrounding health and safety.

This one-day conference will gather leading experts, both as speakers and in the audience, to consider the most topical health and safety issues facing the profession today.
