Managing corporate risk is a key issue for all directors and senior managers in both public and private sector organisations. One significant aspect of Corporate Risk is the health and safety of an organisation’s employees, and of others (including the public) who may be affected by any its activities (including those of contractors). The ‘Turnbull Report’ requires Directors to regularly review their systems of control for health and safety risk. The HSE and Institute of Directors have also published clear guidance on Directors’ Responsibilities for health and safety and these would be sited as best practice by HSE Inspectors seeking to secure compliance with the Law.
