For more information email emma.frith@lexisnexis.co.uk

  • Motivate your staff and raise awareness of health and safety within your organisation, helping to improve your health and safety culture
  • Benchmark your health and safety performance and set an agenda for continuous improvement
  • Achieve recognition from your customers, shareholders, suppliers and peers though positive PR

How can we enter?

Please email emma.frith@lexisnexis.co.uk for full details. You need to explain clearly the behavioural safety processes and initiatives you have put in place in your organisation. These should be set within the context of the relevant elements of effective health & safety management as laid out in the HSE’s guidance HSG65 and BSI’s guidance BS8800, CIA’s Responsible Care Management System (RC127), OHSAS18001 and also the HSE guidance on human factors (HSG48).

Entries should show that the ‘Six Pillars’ of Behavioural Safety have been addressed. These pillars are:

  • Awareness: How and when was an understanding of behavioural issues enhanced? How was any resistance reduced?
  • Management: To what extent has management lead by example and supported the process?
  • Ownership: How have the workforce and its representatives been involved and participated in the initiative? Have they developed a commitment to continuous improvement?
  • Measurement: Do you have a pro-active means of measuring daily safety performance? Is it used for goal-setting for continuous improvement?
  • Feedback: How do you recognise and praise good safety performance? Is there a clear understanding of how unsafe acts may occur?
  • Analysis: Do you objectively identify systemic drivers of unsafe behaviour? Are there targeted recommendations for improvement?

All successful entrants will receive a certificate of achievement.

An expert and independent judging panel will select the 3 best entries. These will then be invited to make a short presentation during the conference. Delegates at the conference will then vote for which entry should win the Allan Poole Award for Outstanding Achievement.

When is the closing date for entries?
